Ways to Develop Good Habits in Language Learning

Ways to Develop Good Habits in Language Learning

Haven't done your maths homework the day before it's due in? Is your teacher going to kill you if you don't complete it in time? Well, don't fear! Just follow this guide to doing your homework the night before - without your parents catching you.

1. Prioritize.

Only do the homework that is due the next day. Don’t do any homework that isn’t due the next day, this wastes time.

Nap beforehand. Either sleep a little longer each night before your late night or grab an afternoon nap that day. "One can bank sleep," Drake said. "Prior to your all-nighter, get nine hours of sleep a night for a week and bank some sleep."

2.Do the homework and take breaks in scheduled slots.

For example, you could do forty minutes of homework and take a five minute break afterwards; during your breaks you can read, exercise, text or listen to music.

3.Get to work.

Don’t stall, don’t go on your computer, don’t play games. Get right down to business immediately.

4.If you study in a group late at night, study around people who you can study with

Word of warning: all study groups are not useful! Some “study groups” don’t always stay focused on studying or getting the work done. Don’t get me wrong, some goofing off is needed so that you can stay focused later. It also gives your mind a needed break. At the same time, if the group gets little to no work done, then the study group defeats its purpose which in the process can waste lots of time.  If you study in a pair, one person can keep the other person accountable. For example, if one person starts goofing off, the other person can get the group back focused. The advantage of having a good group is that you get new perspectives and the opportunity to get the work done. Find a good group to study with!

5.Have access to food, caffeine, or a good source of energy if needed.

This is probably not the healthiest tip that you will give you, but if you are going into late nights, obtaining these things  could give you the energy you need to stay awake and get the homework/studying done. Beware that some stuff can cause you to have a crash of energy though. You may want to get something healthy like a banana or an apple. You may want something unhealthy like a McDonald’s double quarter pounder  or Burger King Whopper. What ever the case, eat something that will give you the energy you need.
